March's News from 2200 (Oldham) Squadron

An Air Cadet from
Oldham will join other air cadets from throughout the country to attend the
annual Air Training Corps overseas Easter camp at RAF Akratiri inCyprus
.
Seventeen year old
Cadet Flight Sergeant Callum Scott, of 2200 (
Oldham) Squadron, Air Training Corps is one of
only five cadets from the East Lancashire Wing who will be attending
the camp. He was personally recommended by his Squadron
Commander.
“It is a privilege to
be selected for this prestigious camp” said Callum “I’m really
looking forward to meeting cadets from all over the country, and
seeing what goes on at an overseas RAF Station”
Flying Officer Mike
Holroyd, Officer in Charge of the Squadron, explained that camps are
held both in the
UK
and overseas, and the
aim of these is to give cadets an insight into life on an RAF base
as well as teach cadets skills such as teamwork and self
sufficiency. “Callum has earned this opportunity through his hard
work and loyalty” added Flying Officer Holroyd
Callum has been a
member of the Squadron for five years. During that time he has
been involved in fund raising for the Squadron and for the British
Legion. He lives in Shaw, and attends Oldham Sixth
Form
College
where
he is studying computing mathematics and physics. Callum aims to
join the Royal Air Force as a pilot.
The Squadron meets at
Wellyhole
Street
,
Oldham, every Monday and Wednesday between 7
pm and 9.30pm. Young people between the ages of 13 and 17 are
welcome to join the Squadron. Activities include: shooting,
adventure training, canoeing, Duke of
Edinburgh
’s Award, flying and
gliding as well as opportunities to attend annual
camps.
