Junior Cadet
Until you have attended 2200 (Oldham) Squadron for approximately 4 weeks you will be a probationary cadet. If, after this time, you have attended regularly and punctually and your behaviour has been exceptional, you will be enrolled. This is when you make your ATC promise, and are formally accepted into the Air Training Corps.

Once you have been enrolled you will receive your RAF 3822; this is your Record of Service Book and Identification. You must have your RAF 3822 on you at all times when on ATC duty, and you should also ensure that it is kept up to date. After enrolment you will become a Second Class Cadet

As a new member of 2200 (Oldham) Squadron your first challenge is to complete basic training and pass the First Class exam. During basic training you will be in a class room along with all other probationary and second class cadets, and will learn subjects that will assist you immensely during your ATC career. The First Class exam consists of seven parts, split into two sections. The first section consists of:

  • Drill
  • The Air Training Corps

These are classed as internal assessments, and are taken after each subject has been completed. The second section consists of:

  • Communications
  • Initial Expedition Training
  • Basic Navigation
  • RAF History
  • Airmanship

The second section is also classed as an internal assessments and is sat under the watchful eye of the squadron's Training Officer. If you succeed in passing all your assessments, you will become a First Class Cadet.
